HOME BUILDING
Posts about posts! And holes and studs and timbers and all of the various pieces that make a house a place to live as opposed to an ominous pile of materials a truck drops off beside a big hole.
North-west corner
The windiest corner of the house happens to also be the master bedroom. On the advice of the neighbour with the spray foam company, we made sure this corner was well protected.
All the Shingle Ladies
The finished octagonal roofing nightmare. There was supposed to be a small saddle framed in the valley, which may eventually have to be added, but for now seems to be channeling water away. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Going up
The first stringer of the second-floor staircase going in.
Engineering underfoot
The first few rows of 7″ wide plank, oil-finished engineered hardwood are installed (by Jonny!), meeting up to the pine tongue and groove living room cathedral wall.
Snow siding
The winter view from the lower driveway. About halfway complete exterior finishing at this point.
Long way home
Dana and Amy made a Menard’s run (3 hrs each way) to pick up the exterior trim for the house. Long story short: the load shifted, they lost some stuff, and had to re-stack everything. The trip took about 14 hrs.
Jamb Session
Dana and Grandma Old painted the door jambs and some of the initial trim. Paint colour: Sherwin Williams West Highland White
Taking shape
The main windowed-wall of the living room’s cathedral design nears framing completion.
Good timing
It’s good having friends randomly show up right as you’re pouring a few metres of concrete walls and sonotubes.
Skip the concrete truck
A couple bags of cement and some piles of sand and stone to finish the last piers. These couldn’t be done until the retaining wall was finished as they were in its backfill area.
