HOME BUILDING
Posts about posts! And holes and studs and timbers and all of the various pieces that make a house a place to live as opposed to an ominous pile of materials a truck drops off beside a big hole.
Virtual tour
Our truss company, Unitized, created a 3d map of the house, which was super helpful in measuring and viewing studs, spaces, and such.
Teamwork
Milly and Carson move crushed rock from the drop pile down to the bottom of the step footings.
Handyman Challenge
Chip’s always ready to help wherever he can.
Water runs uphill
Using the tractor to grab water from Chris and Jacqueline’s to make a footing pad for a basement post that had to be added.
Balancing act
Mummu and Finn hauling some lumber down into the hole.
Don’t show Grandma Old
This guy thinks he’s still 25. Grampa old hanging out a 15′ high window working on waterproofing with Blueskin.
How deep is a hole?
Carson spreads crushed gravel deep in the step-footing trenches.
Loader’up
The payloader stayed on property most of the summer, and came in handy nearly every day.
Angles
What’s 45* times a million? Hopefully they all just line up somehow. The retaining wall that wasn’t in the original plans does make for a convenient place to add a couple deck posts and shorten up joist requirements, however.
Floored
The view is one of the main reasons we settled on this land. Steve and I finished up the second floor decking on one of the nicest evenings of the year.
