Building a house, and a family, one step at a time.
How can you create a home that’s more welcoming, more inviting, and more people will be blessed by entering? Well we’re not entirely sure, but here’s a sample of what we’re doing to try to create a Home for Hosting. On this site you’ll find how-to’s, stories, a build blog, and product and technique reviews on what we like, what we’d do differently, and what to avoid when building your own home.
(Oh yeah, we are still very much building this site and importing a ton of posts over from our previous home building blog which was pretty haphazard. BUT, we are already getting some pageviews despite not yet sharing it anywhere, so if you happen to stumble upon this site somehow, please check back later when we’ve got it all prim and proper!)
Keeping it real
They say if your marriage can survive a reno it’s in good shape. If it can survive building a house yourselves from scratch…I don’t know what they say, but it’s super hard. Thankful for a patient partner; my better half and the only teammate that could’ve made
Recorded for Posteriority’s Sake
This is what it looks like when your jeans are too restrictive for the up-and-down of flooring installation, but it’s also cold in the house late one winter’s night.
Love your neighbour…
It’s not hard to do when they’re quality people like Daniel L. Here he is helping install the kitchen cabinets (with Chip’s help below).
Highlighting
A bit of a precarious task: a solo install of the (pretty heavy!) living room chandelier. Restoration Hardware Camino Vintage Filament Round Chandelier 50″
Octagon Railings
Almost finished the handrails for the whole house; these are on the octagon out back. 3 balusters per foot for 130′ of railings x 2 plugs per baluster. Wowza.
